SECOND JUNIOR WTC WIN FOR ALEXZ WIGG IN IRELAND
Bangor, Ireland, April 06 2008
Alexz Wigg (Future Trial 300 Sandiford Montesa) put the disappointment of missing the podium on Saturday by putting in another terrific Junior result in Round 2 of the junior WTC held today in Bangor NI.
Lap one started well although a dab on the first was not exactly perfect, but Alexz really got to grips with the difficult sections on the seafront, which was even colder and windier than the Saturday if possible. Only two dabs up to four meant he already had the advantage over his rivals, and a clean on 5 (only two riders did this) set him up nicely for the sections in the glen. Losing two on the tricky nine and only one on the very difficult fourteen gave him a total of 6 for the lap before the indoor stadium section at the start area. Clean to the final rock Wiggy over balanced to loose his first five of the day.
This gave him a brilliant lap score of only 11 lost; second place was Sam Haslam on 22, which gave Alexz a good breathing space for the second lap. Although most riders improved on their second lap, Alexz could not match his first and dropped a few nervous dabs, and a few errors resulted in a best lap total of 16 despite a clean on 15, giving a grand total of 27. This gave a richly deserved win in front of the "home" crowd, second was Sam Haslam on 45 and Gomez third on 56.
Alexz was obviously delighted "I am really pleased with the result today, and to win with a gap to the other riders is good. It is just the start I had hoped for in the championship better than I thought possible. Thanks to Harry and all the TRW team it is a great start to the year I just hope I can carry on like this. Mega!" Alexz now leads the championship on 40 points from Gomez on 32 and Sam Haslam on 27.
The next event for Alexz is the first British Championship round in Kinlochleven next week, after an extended stay with Harold Crawford practicing in Northern Ireland.
